Blinds & Heritage Shading in Noorder-Paarl

One of the Drakenstein Valley's most established pockets — oak-lined streets, Cape Dutch and Victorian homes, Paarl Rock's granite boulders close overhead.

The homes here

Noorder-Paarl sits at the foot of Paarl Mountain, its streets shaded by mature oaks and lined with the town's older Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian housing stock — the kind of deep-set sash and gable windows that predate any factory-standard blind size. Because the mountain is so close, several streets here catch its granite-reflected heat directly through the afternoon, on top of whatever the compass direction alone would suggest — genuinely the sharpest version of Paarl's two-suns problem anywhere in town.

What we specify

Timber and bamboo venetian blinds are the natural fit for the original sash and gable windows — warm, adjustable, and at home beside period joinery in a way aluminium never quite manages. For a rear extension or a mountain-facing room taking the reflected heat hardest, we usually add an external venetian or a blockout roller behind the timber slats, so the heat is stopped outside the glass rather than fought after it's already in the room.

Because many of these homes carry heritage character even without formal protection, we keep new fixings discreet and colour-matched wherever the frontage is visible from the street.

Getting started

A free in-home measure lets us see the actual reveal depth on an older sash window before we quote — some need a slim-profile bracket to sit flush, and that's easier to get right on site than from a photo.
